Surprise Proposal in a Sweatshirt? Here’s What We Did Next

Not every proposal comes with a heads-up—and honestly, that’s part of the magic. One of my clients from this fall showed up for what she thought was a casual walk through the park, totally unaware her life was about to change. She was dressed in leggings and a sweatshirt, cute and comfy—but definitely not expecting to say “yes” to forever.

And you know what? It was perfect.

He got down on one knee, she said yes, and the moment was full of genuine surprise and emotion. We took a few photos right then and there—because those real, in-the-moment reactions are priceless. Her joy, his nerves, the laughter—it was all so real.

But the best part? We came back the next day. They got a little more dressed up, and we did a second round of photos to celebrate their engagement with that polished, romantic vibe. So now they have the best of both worlds:

• Raw, emotional photos of the actual proposal

• Dreamy, dressed-up portraits that feel more like a celebration

So if you’re thinking, “What if I’m not ‘camera-ready’ when it happens?”—don’t stress. You don’t need the perfect outfit to capture the perfect moment. We can always come back and create more magic.
